Good to know: This page is general information, not medical advice. Loud, frequent snoring can sometimes go along with sleep apnea. If you gasp, stop breathing in your sleep, or feel very sleepy in the day, talk to a doctor before choosing a device. Ask a dentist before using a mouth guard if you have jaw pain, loose teeth, braces or dental work.

The Somnofit-S Anti-Snore Mouth Guard+ is the main product of SnoreLessNow. Here is how the brand says it works, how the fitting goes, and what to check before you order.

How the brand says it works

It is a mandibular advancement device: it gently positions the jaw forward, which the brand says makes it easier to breathe while you sleep. The brand lists it as FDA-cleared and made from Swiss medical polymers.

Fitting, step by step (from the brand)

  1. Boil and bite: you mold the device to your teeth and jaw at home.
  2. Pick a strap. The five straps are numbered 1 to 5, and a higher number means a tighter fit. The brand suggests strap 1 or 2 if you have an overbite, strap 5 for an underbite, and 3 or 4 for an average bite.
  3. Wear it for an hour or two before bed at first to get used to it. Give yourself several nights to adjust.
  4. If snoring continues, the brand suggests moving up one strap, and wearing each strap for 3 to 5 nights before changing again. If there is too much pressure, go down one strap.

The replacement strap pack on the brand site says the straps advance the jaw in 1.5 mm steps, up to 6 mm.

What to check before you buy

  • Jaw and teeth. Mouth guards move the jaw. Ask a dentist if you have jaw pain, loose teeth, or dental work.
  • Snoring vs sleep apnea. Device claims aside, gasping or pauses in breathing are a reason to see a doctor.
  • The guarantee. The page lists 14 nights to adjust and a request for return through night 120, even if molded and worn. Read the terms.
  • Care. The brand says to brush it with a toothbrush and avoid bleach, ammonia or alcohol mouthwash.
